“Tears of the Dragon”

Sometimes as we walk through life we meet up with some very special people. I remember one such time with great clarity. I was on a mission deep within the jungle; looking for a special plant to heal a young child in the village of my people. She had become stricken with an ailment that caused blindness, motor skills and severe bowel disorder. On my journey through the dense jungle I came across an old man. He was very pale and looked as if he was near death’s door. I approached the man and said, you look as if you could use my help. He stared right through me as if I were not there and seemed almost in a coma. I made camp for the night as I knew I could not move him far. I had no radio and the trek out of the dense jungle would be long and difficult.

I set about making a medicine from the herbs and other plants I carried with me in my medicine bag. When I examined him I noticed that he was spider bitten; looking around I was able to locate the spider. So I administered him the medicine made from the plant and plant roots found in my bag. The night was very long and every hour I had to administer the medicine by dripping it slowly over his tongue.

Sometime in the early morning hours I drifted off to sleep and when I awakened I notice the man was no where’s to be found. He vanished into the dense jungle. I continued on knowing that if I did not find the plant I call the Tears of The Dragon, The child would most likely die. I worked my way deeper into the jungle searching for the plant but to no avail. Discouraged I stopped and set up camp along the Amazon river. I knew that I only had a two day time window left in which to help the child.

I ate a light meal and stoked up the fires well before going to bed in the tops of the trees. In the morning I awaken to the sound of the birds and other animals. Much to my surprise I saw the old man standing at the base of the tree and with him were some surveyors that were mapping out the area I was in.

He held in his out stretched hand the plant I named Tears of the dragon. I could not understand what he was saying so I asked those there with him if they could translate for me. The surveyors told me that he belonged to a village deep within the rainforest and that he told them of a man in the form of a great beast that saved his life. They said, he kept saying over and over A dragon visited him and told him give to he that saved you this plant, for he looks in hopes of saving a child.

I was able to return home and beat the window of time and the child recovered very quickly. So I ask you, Do dragons really live and do they walk among us? You be the judge. Sometimes legends and fables are born of truth.
